1. What should my child wear?
We recommend dressing for the weather - layers are a great idea as are spare socks and gloves. Waterproof footwear is essential. You are likely to leave dirty and you may smell of campfire smoke (!) and so please don't dress your little one in their favourite clothing!
2. Can I pay on the day?
No. Booking in advance is essential, that way we can ensure we have sufficient equipment and supplies to ensure you have an enjoyable time with us.
3. Can I leave my child with you?
No. The caregiver is required to stay for the duration of the session and is responsible for supervising the child(ren) throughout.
4. Do you have toilets and hand wash facilities
Whilst we don't have a mains toilet and sink, we do have a camping toilet and hand wash basin that is housed in our trailer, although we recommend visiting the toilet before arriving. We also provide basic nappy changing facilities, asking that you take soiled nappies away with you. We do remind you that this an outdoor provision and so may not be what you are used to!
5. My child is potty training, can I bring a potty?
Yes, absolutely. You are welcome to bring your portable potty and use our trailer for privacy, if you wish.
6. Is there onsite parking?
Wherever possible we aim to provide onsite parking. You will be given site specific parking details in your welcome communication, once you have signed up. If parking is a concern to you in advance, please contact us hello@fennsden.co.uk.
7. Are older children welcome?
Yes, absolutely. We recognise that children develop at different speeds and have different interests. Whilst we advertise our stay and play sessions as a 0 to 6 setting , if you feel your child would enjoy the facilities on offer, they are very welcome to attend at the standard rate of £12 per child or £8 sibling.
8. Can I take photographs?
Yes, capturing memories is all part of the fun! All we ask is that you avoid photographing the faces of other children, unless you have permission from the caregiver. This is important from a safeguarding perspective and anyone photographing children's faces without the appropriate consent will be asked to leave.
9. Can I share my photographs on social media?
Provided the images are those of children in your care then absolutely yes! Don't forget to tag us!
10. Are all of your sites in woodlands and forests?
Not always, no. Some of our sites are in open parks, fields or community grounds, whilst others are in wooded or part wooded areas. Whatever the site, our aim is to bring nature inspired outdoor learning to the setting, using the forest skills our leader has acquired.
11. We have never been to a forest school session before, what can we expect?
Freedom, fun and friendship! Children are encouraged to free play, use their imagination and make a mess! Our leader promotes a friendly and inclusive environment where children learn to play, be kind and to share, whilst making new friends - caregivers too!
12. My child has special educational needs. Can I bring them to a session?
Yes, absolutely. Our leader encourages a friendly and inclusive environment where children can openly and safely play. If you believe the activities on offer are ideal for your child, book in with us. If you have specific concerns you can always drop our leader, Donna, an email or give her call (details on the contact us page).
13. My child is sick, can I cancel and get a refund?
Yes. If you give us 24 hours notice in advance of your session, you will be given a refund. We ask that wherever possible you attend your session. We are a small family run business and late cancellations and no shows really impact us.
14. I own a woodland. Would you be interested in using it?
YES please! We are always on the look out for more sites, meaning more children get to experience the benefits of Fenn's Den. If you own a woodland or part woodland, do get in touch, we would love to talk to you about how we can work together.
We hope to see you in the Den!
